If you are currently looking for an avenue to get solar panels installed on your property, then you’re in luck! The team at ESOLAR are experts in all things solar and would be happy to help you get started with your solar panel installations.

While our team of professionals can do solar panel installations, many people still wonder what each step of the process will entail. Once you have made your decision to invest in solar panels, what happens next?

In this blog post, we will discuss the process of having a solar panel array installed in your home as well as some of the advantages of doing so in 2024.

Installing Solar Panels on Your Roof

While solar panels are incredibly intricate pieces of equipment, the installation process is not too complex. Before any installation can commence, it is important to note that the installer you choose must carry out a site survey of your property to get a better understanding of what they are working with.

This will include checking the integrity of your roof to make sure that it will be able to hold the weight of your new solar panels and will not collapse. It is also important to make sure that you choose an installer who is MCS-certified to make sure that you are getting the best service possible.

Having these certifications should give you the peace of mind that site surveys are being conducted with full care and professionalism. Often, surveyors without an MCS certification can complete the job poorly which will lead to more expenses being incurred later down the line.

While the upfront costs for solar panels may seem steep, there is more than enough use that you will receive back to make your investment worth it in the long term.

Set up Scaffolding

The first step that will need to be completed by the installation team is to set up scaffolding around your home which should take around a day to complete before they can continue with the process.

This is typically the longest part of the process and is one of the most important as it means that the team will have consistent and safe access to your roof at all times.

Attach Roof Anchors

The next step is to install the roof anchor points which are used to keep the solar panels in place. During this step in the process, the installer will need to lift some of your roof panels to attach the anchors to the rafters in your loft.

This will make sure that your solar panel arrangement will not fall off your roof or get seriously damaged during stormy weather in your area.

Attach Solar Panel Mounts

Once your roof anchors are attached to the property, the installer will be able to attach your solar panel mounting system to them. These will support the solar panel foundation by spanning horizontally and vertically over your roof.

The mounting mechanism keeps the panels in place while also helping to situate them at the optimal angle on the roof, resulting in enhanced sunlight exposure.

Install Solar Panels

The final major step of the operation is to install the solar panels on your property. This will be a short section of the total process where the installation team will need to simply attach the solar panels to the mounts that were installed earlier.

They will first place them without fully securing them in place, just to make sure that everyone is happy with the arrangement of the panels before going back to secure the bolts fully and complete the installation.

Once your solar panels are in place, the installation team will also have to complete the wiring of your system and integrate them into your home electrical system. While most solar panels will come pre-wired from the manufacturer, this may not always be the case.

If they are pre-wired, all the team will need to do is connect an inverter to the panels which will allow them to finally be used in your home.

Advantages of Using Solar Panels

Solar panels create power without generating greenhouse gases, which considerably reduces your home’s carbon impact. Solar electricity is a renewable resource, which means it will not decline over time like fossil fuels.

You may cut or even eliminate your monthly utility payments by producing your power. Many countries provide tax credits, rebates, and other incentives to help cover the initial cost of installing solar panels.

Homes with solar panels are often valued more and sell faster than those without. Many utility providers have net metering programmes, which allow you to sell excess electricity back to the grid, further lowering your energy bills.

Solar panels enable you to generate your electricity, reducing your reliance on the public power grid and offering some level of energy security. Generating your own electricity means you are protected from price increases, particularly when considering the ever-increasing efficiency of solar panels in 2024.

Solar panels are built to resist a variety of weather conditions and have a normal lifespan of 25 to 30 years. They require little care, other than occasional cleaning and periodic tests to ensure proper operation.

So, to summarise, the key benefits of solar power include:

  • Power creation without greenhouse gas emissions
  • Cut energy costs
  • Increase the value of your home
  • Reduce reliance on the national grid
  • Solar panels require very little maintenance
